Exam Overview
The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has detailed the UPPSC AE Exam Pattern in its official notification, highlighting the marking scheme, question types, and subject-wise weightage for both the Preliminary and Mains exam papers.
Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme
The UPPSC AE Exam selection process comprises three stages:
- Preliminary Exam
- Mains Exam
- Interview
However, the merit list is based solely on the marks obtained in the Mains Exam and Interview.
Preliminary Exam:
The prelims consist of 150 objective-type questions from General Knowledge, General Hindi and Engineering Aptitude to be completed within a 2-hour time duration. The total marks for the prelims paper are 300. Candidates will receive two marks for each correct answer, while 1/3 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

Mains Exam:
The UPPSC AE Mains Exam comprises two papers: Paper I and Paper II.
Paper I Details:
The paper I includes 125 questions, with 25 questions from General Hindi and 100 from the respective engineering discipline. Each correct answer awards 3 marks, while 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect response. The maximum score for Paper I is 375, and candidates are given a total of 2.5 hours to complete the paper.
Paper II Details:
Paper II includes a total of 125 questions, with 25 questions from General Studies and 100 questions from the respective engineering discipline. Each correct answer awards 3 marks, while 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect response. The maximum score for Paper I is 375, and candidates are given a total of 2.5 hours to complete the paper.

Exam Syllabus
The prelims exam for UPPSC AE will consist of questions from General Knowledge, General Hindi and Engineering Aptitude.
General Knowledge: The General Knowledge section will test the candidate’s awareness of current events and news on both national and international fronts. This portion, carrying 25 marks, will evaluate knowledge in areas such as History, Politics, Geography, and related fields.
General Hindi: This section is designed to assess the candidate’s proficiency in the Hindi language, including vocabulary and word usage, with a total weightage of 25 marks. The difficulty level of the questions corresponds to the 10th-grade syllabus. Key topics include comprehension, synonyms and antonyms, error identification, one-word substitutions, fill-in-the-blanks, and more.
Engineering Aptitude: The Engineering Aptitude section evaluates candidates’ understanding of fundamental engineering concepts and principles.

The mains exam for UPPSC AE will consist of Paper I and Paper 2.
UPPSC AE Paper I General Hindi Syllabus: The General Hindi section will include 25 questions aimed at evaluating the candidates' proficiency in the Hindi language. Topics will cover comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and effective usage of the language.
UPPSC AE Paper I Engineering Syllabus: The Engineering section in Paper I will include discipline-specific topics designed to evaluate candidates' technical knowledge. There are four engineering disciplines to choose from: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Agriculture. Each discipline will feature questions relevant to its core concepts and applications.
UPPSC AE Paper II General Studies Syllabus: The General Knowledge section is designed to evaluate the candidates' general awareness by covering topics such as Current Affairs, Indian History, Indian Geography, Indian Polity, General Science, and the role of science in everyday life. This section, with a weightage of 25 marks, also includes important events at both national and international levels, providing a comprehensive analysis of the candidates' understanding of diverse topics.
UPPSC AE Paper II Engineering Syllabus: The Engineering section in Paper I will include discipline-specific topics designed to evaluate candidates' technical knowledge.
