SSC CGL
Exam Overview
The Combined Graduate Level Examination (SSC CGL or CGLE) is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit Group B and Group C officers for various positions in ministries, departments, and organisations under the Government of India.
The SSC CGL exam takes place in two stages:
- Tier – I:
The Tier–I exam is compulsory for all candidates and is a computer-based examination. The Tier–I exam is only qualifying in nature.
- Tier – II:
The Tier–II exam is a computer-based examination consisting of Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3. The Tier–II exam is scoring in nature, and the marks scored in this exam will be considered for final selection.
- Paper I is compulsory for all posts.
- Paper II is meant for candidates applying for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
- Paper III is for candidates applying for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer.
For the 2025 recruitment, no vacancies have been announced for the Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer post. Hence, Paper 3 will not be held for the year 2025. Let’s look at the exam pattern for all stages of the SSC CGL recruitment process, one by one.
Exam Pattern
SSC CGL Tier I
The SSC CGL Tier-1 Exam will be a computer-based online examination comprising 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) across four sections, with a maximum mark of 200. The four sections are General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. The entire exam will take 60 minutes to complete. The SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam will be of a qualifying nature, and marks will not be counted in the final selection.

SSC CGL Tier II
The SSC CGL Tier—II exam will also be a computer-based online examination and is divided into two phases: Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is conducted in two separate sessions on the same day and it is compulsory for all candidates. However, paper 2 is only for candidates applying for the Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) post. The subjects and number of questions are detailed in the tables below.

Marking Scheme
SSC CGL Tier I
Candidates will receive two marks for each correct answer, while 0.5 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

Candidates will receive three marks for each correct answer, while 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response. Note that the data entry speed test will be marked separately.
